ONE DAY TRAIL RIDES

We'll start the day at 9:00 a.m. with safety information and a lesson on horsemanship. Don't worry if you've never been on a horse before, we welcome beginners as well as advanced horsemen/women. We'll spend the day exploring the back country of the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National or the adjacent Custer National Forest, following the same trails the early pioneers did. There will be plenty of opportunities for breaks and picture taking. A sack lunch is provided for you on the trail. We'll end our day back at our outfitter station around 4 p.m.

TWO DAY TRAIL RIDES

For those of you wanting to continue your adventure, we have two options for accommodations at the end of your first day. The first option would include a hotel room in near-by Watford City. With this option, transportation to and from the hotel is your responsibility as well as dinner the first night and breakfast the next morning. The second option would include your camping accommodations on the trail, a savory western supper the first night and a hearty breakfast the next morning. Camping out will give you the opportunity to view a spectacular sunset and enjoy a night of clean fresh air. Regardless of where you chose to lay your head, your body will be ready to rest after a full day on the trail. We'll be saddled up and ready to ride our horses at 8:30 on the second day. A new trail will be explored. A sack lunch will be provided. We'll end our ride back at our outfitter station around 4 p.m.

CATTLE DRIVES

This is an adventure for the rider who wants a real Western experience. This three day two night ride will prove that hard work can be fun. You'll spend three days of hard and dusty riding while gathering cattle and moving them through the rugged Badlands of North Dakota. We provide the scenery, tall tales, hearty western meals, and blissful starry nights. You provide a hard-working sense of adventure. Hot meals are served mornings and evenings, and sack lunches are provided while on the trail. You must supply your own sleeping bag, tent, and canteen. Due to the limited number of riders we can accommodate for our round-ups, we recommend booking early. Cattle Rounds will take place in July and October. The specific dates for 2006 will be available by April 1.

MAAH DAAH HEY TRAIL

The trail name "Maah Daah Hey" comes from the Mandan Indians. In the Mandan language, on e word or phrase can describe a picture, feeling or situation. In this case, it means "grandfather." This 100 mile trail traverses an area of Badlands surrounded by large expanses of gently rolling prairie. The Maah Daah Hey connects the North and South Units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, an area of North Dakota that provides prime habitat for a variety of mammals and birds.

We meet our guests for this five day, four night adventure at our outfitter station, 16 miles south of Watford City, ND. Except for personal items*, we provide everything needed for the ride. You will be assigned a horse and tack, and it will be your responsibility to care for your assigned horse and equipment. Inexperienced riders will receive basic riding instructions. (*Don't bring your complete wardrobe on the trail. Bring a small bag with incidentals and a minimum amount of extra clothing.) You must supply your own sleeping bag, tent, and canteen.

The luxuries of the city will be left behind as we rough it in the back country. Evenings will be spent caring for horses and equipment. You may want to try your hand at roping the camp steer, or you may just want to relax and enjoy the evening skies and sounds of the Badlands. Hot meals are served mornings and evenings and sack lunches will be provided for on the trail.
